Feeling Festive in Term 2
We
have had a fantastic term with lots of learning and exciting
activities. We were very fortunate to have been given a second block
of swimming at the Renfrew Baths. This has allowed us to build and
refine our skills.
Our World War One topic was fascinating and we learned so much about how the war began due to tension in Europe followed by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Information about the trenches was very gory and surprisingly most of us enjoyed learning about it! We produced beautiful artwork based on a WW1 artist Paul Nash, paying attention to creating an angry red sky and focusing on building a picture on the foreground of a 'War Ruined Landscape'. To support this topic we had a visit from Mr O'Malley, a history teacher from Renfrew High School. His presentation was extremely informative and we would love to have him visit us again to help with our history topics.
We
also had another extremely important visitor, Dr. Quentin Fogg, an
anatomist from Glasgow University. He spoke to us and Room 13 about the role of
muscles in our bodies and we could relate this to our everyday
movements and Physical Education at Kirklandneuk. We watched some
captivating video clips of Dr. Fogg working on parts of the human
body. All of us took part in activities to demonstrate how the body
works. It was so much fun! We had a tug of war, used a jump board
and worked with our bodies to feel and observe muscle movement.
For
the Christmas Fayre we made 3D gift boxes to house a scented candle.
We are pleased that many of these were bought in class and at the
fayre to help raise funds for the Primary 7 leavers' dance.
In
the class we have two very Responsible Citizens who have volunteered
their own Golden Time on many occasions to make Eco posters for each
class to remind pupils and staff to recycle and look after our
environment. These children are Mhairi Wishart and Faye Henry. I
cannot thank both girls enough for their commitment and ingenuity and
I am sure the posters will look fantastic on every class' Eco Wall.
I
would also like to thank Iona McMillan, Stephen Spiers, Brogan
McDowall, Abbey Lorriman, Kayla Davis and Kyle Bunch for all their
hard work in learning a French drama presentation to support staff at
the French Open Evening. They worked on this presentation in class
with myself however I know how much time and effort was put in to
continue to learn their lines at home. I was so very proud of each
and every one of you.
Primary 6 and Miss Paterson would like to wish you a very safe and relaxing holiday over the festive break.
