A BUSY NEW TERM

Primary 6 have settled in nicely to our new class and new routines over the past few weeks. We also have a new teacher; Miss Paterson who is very impressed with our high standards of work in the class so far.

During the first week of term, we each made a fact sheet about ourselves to be put in a Time Capsule, which will be opened at the end of Primary 6. We hope to be able to compare our likes and dislikes and also see if we have achieved the targets we set for the year. We also put a current photograph of ourselves on our fact sheets and cannot wait to see how much we change throughout the year.

Our class points system is ‘Around the World’. We try our best to work in teams to collect flags from all around the world. To fit in with this theme we named our co-operative learning teams after countries or famous landmarks. Our teams are: United Arab Emirates, Alaska, Hawaii, London Eye, Emirates Palace and Russia. We think this is a great way to earn group points and we learn about countries and their flags too! Miss Paterson also has some special badges we can wear if we have shown we are Successful Learners, Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors or Confident Individuals in class or around the school. These are called VIP badges (Very Important Pupil).

We have started an exciting new Science topic, learning all about The Solar System. Some of us have brought in interesting books to share with the class. We enjoy working in our co-operative teams to learn about our topics. In our teams we have made fact sheets on each planet. Here are a few examples. Don’t they look fabulous?

We have also been very artistic and created some textured planet paintings. They still need some finishing touches before going on the wall but already look great!

In Term 1 we are visiting Renfrew Victory Baths each Wednesday morning. We love swimming and everyone is trying very hard to impress the swimming teachers to progress to the next group.

In Primary 6 our responsibilities are growing at Kirklandneuk. We now do Dinner Duty at lunch times, Playmakers and we have chosen our representatives for the Eco-Committee, Pupil Council and Forum and our Anti-Bullying representatives.

We all look forward to what the rest of term 1 holds for us. We will keep you posted!
