Term 1

Primary 6 have made a fantastic start to their new session.  Term one is almost over and we cannot believe it!  So far we have been very fortunate to start our Wednesday physical education slots with swimming at Renfrew Victory Baths.  It has given us more confidence and our highlights were getting to jump in and some of us even learned to dive.

Our topics this term have been Churches and Worship, Ecosystems and Food Chains and The Media.  We were interested in learning all about different places of worship, especially within Christianity.  We now have a beautiful display in our classroom of Church line drawings that we personally designed.

Our Ecosystems topic has been very interesting.  We studied our playground, completing frequency charts whilst on the hunt for various organisms within our habitat.  We took into consideration various factors such as the weather, varied grass lengths and preferred living environments for different organisms.  We now have a better idea of how food chains and food webs work and the importance of sustaining habitats to avoid food chains or webs being broken.

We are currently studying the Media.  We are particularly interested in the influence the media has on society and how this affects individuals.  Another aspect we are studying is the development of Media.  Who remembers VCRs or Vinyl?  Most of the class didn’t know what these were! Primary 6 were astonished at how far these forms of media have come.

We had a very exciting trip to the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles on Wednesday 24th September.  We set of around 8:30 am and arrived to beautiful weather and an exciting atmosphere.  We visited the ‘Spectator’s Village’ which displayed important information about the competition.  It was exciting to sit at the side of the Fairway and watch some of Europe’s professional golfers who would be taking part in the main event.  Primary 6 are ever so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit such a prestigious event.

Primary 6 2014-15

Primary 6 enjoyed some Outdoor Learning linked to Numeracy and Science this week.

We were completing frequency tables whilst on the hunt for organisms living in our Ecosystem.

Next week we will transfer this information collected onto bar graphs.

Have a look at the fun we had.
