Term 1

Primary 5 have had a fantastic start to the new school session. Since returning in August, the class have been building their learning community by developing their own class charters and engaging in check-in and circle time activities. This has helped to create a supportive learning environment in which the children feel comfortable and valued by their peers and teachers.

Last term the children were very busy working on our Science topic ‘The Water Cycle’, where we learned why water is important and the processes with which water recycles itself. We also planned and carried out an experiment on evaporation and the children predicted what might happen. The children were all very enthusiastic about it and we were very pleased at its success. During our topic on Britain, we developed our map skills by identifying countries and capital cities on a map.

In Art, the children have created portraits inspired by the Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso, and have impressed many others in the school with these. As part of the Modern Languages week the class met up with some of our cluster schools on Wednesday 28th of September in Newmains Primary for a modern languages games afternoon. The class showed enthusiasm and imagination when making their sock puppets for this event that helped facilitate language conversation.

I am looking forward to the term ahead and meeting everyone at the first parents' evening.
